Kenya Women Trust fund (KWFT)

The Kenya Women Trust Fund was initially a women’s self-help group.

A group of professional women established an institution that would solve women’s financial and non-financial problems for women.

The KWFT is the leading and oldest microfinance institution serving over 800,000 clients around the country with 245 branches.

The institution received the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) license for Deposit-Taking Business in March 2010.

KWFT has a massive number of clients based in the rural area, therefore, ensuring that there is equality a well as reach as many people as possible.

Services offered by KWFT

1. Mobile Banking

KWFT has allowed its clients to access money more easily through mobile banking.

Their system operates 24/7, therefore, being convenient to most clients

  • You can quickly deposit and withdraw money from your Mpesa to and from the KWFT account.
  • You can request for Mini-statement
  • Fund transfer between KWFT accounts

2. ATM Sevices

With KWFT account, you can also access banking services via debit cards from over 3 KWFT ATMs machines or over 2,000 Kenswitch branded ATMs countrywide

To apply for an ATM card, you can download and fill your application form and drop it to the nearest KWFT office.

  • You can shop using the card at any POS enabled outlet

3. Agency Banking

This is one of the easiest ways of accessing KWFT services. However, it has to be in selected points.

4. Money Transfer services

KWFT has its clients with a variety of Money transfer services.

This include

PesaLink: an interbank transfer service that enables you to send and receive funds to and from your KWFT account in real-time. With Pesalink, you can transfer money through KWFT Branch, the mobile platform and ATM

Money gram: This service is available in all KWFT branches and enables you to send and receive money transfers easily both locally and globally.

Western Union: This is the most common money transfer service, and it is available in all KWFT branches.

MPESA: This is a mobile money transfer offered by mobile service provider Safaricom and KWFT offers super agency services to M-Pesa agents. Therefore it becomes easy for clients to deposit and withdraw money from their KWFT accounts to their mobile phones.

Airtel Money: Just like MPesa Airtel money is owned by Airtel Kenya and allows a client to Deposit and withdrawal money from their Airtel Money account, all you require is an Airtel number.

5. Loan Calculator

This service gives KWFT loan debtors an easy time whenever they apply for a loan.

Even before you request for a loan, you can know how you will repay it and how much depending on the amount you borrow.

This service is not available in many banking sectors since you are required to visit the branch for further inquiries when it comes to loans.

6. 24hr customer service

At KWFT, time does not matter, especially when it is the client in question.

This particular loan includes:

Water tank loans: The credit is mainly given to clients who are mostly in agriculture. It enables them to acquire water tanks to store water for domestic use, farming, and irrigation purposes.

4.Nyumba Smart Loan

This is a financial product that will enable a client to acquire quality building materials for the home construction or improvements with affordable housing support services.

5. Consumer Loans

This product comes in two types:

Phone Loan: This loan is given to Kwft clients to afford high-quality phones to promote mobile banking.


  • Must be a KWFT customer in either group or individual.

Salary Loan: The loan is designed to extend credit facilities to employed customers against their salaries.

This can be through Checkoffs or personal salaries.


  • Must show a 3 Months Certified payslips
  • Original and copy of ID/Passport
  • Passport photo

6. Education Loan

The KWFT grants the clients with the education loan to help in the payment of school fees.

Above all, the loan has exciting benefits, including free bankers cheque, flexible loan repayment, and timely processing of a loan.

7.Emergency loans

This is quick or urgently need money gotten in a short period meant to satisfy an immediate need.

Tujiunge Chama Account: This is an account that is designed for formal and informal women groups of at least three members who would want their savings to be safe and, at the same time, grow.

9. KWFT Afya Fit

This is a product given to KWFT clients meant to cover for health insurance to meet medical expenses for you and your family members.


  • Colored passport photo for all dependants
  • Copy of National ID (Principle Member and 1 Spouse).
  • KRA pin
  • Letter from Child welfare (For children under guardianship).
  • Copies of Birth certificates for dependents.
