The exciting news is on the horizon as direct flights to the U.S. from Kenya are about to become a reality, bringing the country closer to becoming a premium hub in East and Central Africa.
Despite facing some challenges in recent months, Kenya has shown resilience, and notable achievements are worth celebrating.
Among these accomplishments is the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, renowned as one of the largest and finest airports globally.
Its world-class facilities and services have made it a key player in air travel, attracting travelers from around the globe.
Additionally, Kenya takes pride in having a national courier service, a distinction only a few countries can boast of.
This service is crucial in supporting the country’s logistics and trade, contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
As Kenya progresses and overcomes obstacles, these achievements testify to its potential as a significant player in the aviation and transportation sectors.
With direct flights to the U.S. on the horizon, the nation is poised to strengthen its position as a regional hub and open up new opportunities for growth and development.
As such, Kenya has been seeking direct flights to America for a long time, and the time has finally come.
As announced by the Kenya Airports Authority, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is among the few Airports that have achieved the LPD (Last Point of Departure) status.
This will allow the national courier to fly directly to America and back.
Direct flight to America
While the protocols are all set, the flights have been scheduled for October 2022. On the 28th of October 2022, the inaugural flight took off for the first direct flight from JKIA to JFK International Airport in New York.
As a result of this direct flight, Kenya will be a significant transit point for American visitors coming to Africa and vice versa. The Kenya Airports Authority Managing Director Jonny Andersen said this about the new development. “This is a major achievement for Kenya. JKIA has become one of the elite African airports to be certified as a last point of departure to the United States. JKIA is now poised to become the premier hub in Africa.”
The direct flights will come in handy, primarily by eliminating the delays, frustrations, and flight hoping that US-bound travelers had to contend with previously. Still, it will promote the economy of the country. Cargo and other exports will be easier to move between the two countries. This will result in a symbiotic or mutual benefit for Kenya and the US.
